Hey, I am Tyler
I spend most of my time working on technology that is on the cusp of becoming normal. For the last 5 years that has taken the form of applied AI (strategy, prototyping, product launch) for generative AI and knowledge systems startups. Most recently I led AI at Golden until its acquisition in spring '24. I am a computer engineer by degree, but I have previously worked across mobile, web, and supercomputing in a range of roles from engineering to marketing.
This site is not meant to be a portfolio—it is intentionally designed to share my open-ended explorations.
RIGHT NOW
Can we predict the market?
I am currently building out a full-featured quant trading platform. For the last 4 years I have traded stocks and options on the side of work, building up a long list of what would be needed to make strong predictions using AI. With an increasingly impressive win rate on short term options over the last year, I have decided to take a small break from startups to formalize my processes into something durable and extensible. This new private platform will be unlike anything publicly available, offering deep knowledge-event-action linkages and intraday predictions with full english explainability.
This has been one of my favorite projects so far, happy to talk more in DMs, but I likely won't be sharing much about this work publicly.

Systems to surface hidden assumptions and make stronger predictions.
After years of contemplation, I have identified the slice of the market that is ideal for me: creating systems to make stronger choices. Monotonic is my upcoming company that utilizes AI and human understanding to create products that deepen context. One of the first products will be a solution engine for long-range task planning, a service needed to remove the numerous assumptions made by generative AI.
In a world full of abundant intelligence, curation and taste will emerge as the higher leverage points. Enabling curation at scale across many domains requires understanding and automating the factors making up great choices. This is a fun, deep problem set that is not an trapped into the all-or-nothing paradigm.

"The world of tasks doing work—productive, generative AI work, generative intelligent work—that market size is enormous. It’s measured in trillions."

Exploring.
I am endlessly fascinated with how the brain works and how people express their thoughts. Our perception is the most meaningful, undiscussed topic in the world. I think differently than most, having both SDAM (inability to form autobiographical memories) and aphantasia (no mental visuals). This means that I can happily live thinking mostly about the future and hardly at all about the past. I am an avid early adopter and fidelity-obsessed be it audio, video, or mental clarity. Opening up these types of topics motivates a meaningful amount of my work and I am happy to talk about them.

Frame is a pair of bluetooth smart glasses containing an ultra low power heads up display. It is made by Brilliant Labs and is part of a small wave of AI wearables that gained significant media coverage as part of the early 2024 AI hype wave.

If you could have been one of the first people to work on the internet in the early 90s, mobile in the early 00s, or blockchain in the early 10s, would you have done it? Well, now is your chance. People often talk about AI in the context of workforce automation, but that is far from the only application. Pour another cup of coffee and let's dive into how the future will be filled with AI, APIs and metaverses. In this article we set out to understand how the metaverse will be structured and how emerging technology can help us get there.

INVESTING
I have always had a good mind for finance and truly enjoy playing the infinite game of investing. Every day there is something new to factor in, optimize, or adjust. I like both public and private markets (startups). I spend a good deal of time in the world of high-leverage options trading. I am actively building my endgame prediction platform.
AI
I believe AI can be a force for good, one that we are barely starting to apply. I dislike hype and spend less time on research-style problems, opting to focus on direct applications. How can current systems perform new, emergent tasks for us? How can we collapse the gap between what a person can think and what they can create? How can we enable more fulfillment without upsetting society too deeply? How can we continually seek and generate quality? Where does value accrue?
DESIGN
As I get older I find more enjoyment in design. Figma now gets just as many hours as anything else. The design of tangible things is something new to me and will likely be a topic this site explores over time.

Thinking.
I believe we should intentionally keep our minds open to new ideas. Recording ideas as they cross your mind, then looking at them later tends to have a compounding effect that too few capture.
